ORIENTATION

A caregiver warmly interacts with an elderly woman in a wheelchair.

ORIENTATION

All personal care staff are required to complete the agency’s orientation program before providing any services independently. By completing orientation, caregivers become familiar with professional duties and responsibilities, consumer rights, infection control practices, emergency procedures, and proper documentation standards. The training also emphasizes respect, dignity, and safety in every interaction with consumers. This requirement ensures that every caregiver is fully prepared, knowledgeable about agency expectations, and equipped to deliver safe, respectful, and high-quality care.

All personal care staff shall complete agency orientation before independently providing services to consumers. Orientation shall include;

(1) Employee duties and responsibilities;

(2) A description of the services provided by the agency;

(3) The differences in personal care, nurse aide care and health care in the home including limiting factors for the provision of personal care;

(4) Consumer rights including freedom from abuse or neglect, and confidentiality of consumer records, personal, financial and health information;

(5) Hand washing and infection control;

(6) Assignment and supervision of services;

(7) Observation, reporting and documentation of consumer status and the service furnished;

(8) Emergency response policies and emergency contact numbers for the agency and for the individual consumer assigned.

Reading time: 1h 53min

The training programs include quizzes and certificates of completion to support learning and verify successful course completion.
